A Brief History of Kenneth Copeland Ministries, KCM
Kenneth and Gloria’s path into ministry began in 1966, when God called Kenneth to take classes at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of nearly 30.
Finally, living according to God’s will
Kenneth and Gloria packed their belongings and their two children and drove to Tulsa on faith after years of avoiding God’s will. Kenneth had no money and no employment, therefore he couldn’t afford to pay his tuition.
Kenneth was a certified pilot who was uncertain how he would be able to balance working to support his family while also attending school. Kenneth found a job flying an airplane for Oral Roberts on the first day he showed up to register for classes, and God miraculously provided the money for tuition and books.
At ORU, Kenneth was learning a lot about faith and God’s Word. Brother Roberts and he were traveling together, attending classes during the day and listening to Kenneth Hagin cassettes at night. Gloria was still growing, even though she wasn’t in school. She was dedicated to spending hours each day studying the Bible while also caring for the children and the house.
Kenneth and Gloria have found themselves smack dab in the middle of God’s will for the first time in their lives, and they couldn’t be happier! As they were obedient to His desire, they began to feel His peace, provision, and direction.
Getting Called to Ministry (The Birth Of KCM)
Kenneth thought the Lord was trying to teach him something one day in March 1967, but he didn’t know what it was. He returned home from school that afternoon and opted to pray and listen beside the Arkansas River bed, about a mile from his home. Kenneth accepted God’s call to ministry while standing on the dried-up Arkansas River bed.
Kenneth recounts, “He informed me exactly what He was calling me to do.” “He was inviting me to go throughout the world preaching the gospel… He claimed that nations might be gained in a day, and that some of them could be won by this ministry.”
Kenneth sat in that riverbank for months, pondering what God had told him. When summer arrived, all of Kenneth’s fears were replaced with faith, and he was ready to accept the call.
“I stood up before the Lord and said, ‘I’ll tell You what I’m going to do,’” Kenneth recalls. I’m going to preach Jesus Christ’s gospel. I’m going to preach that He saves, heals, baptizes with the Holy Spirit, and that He’ll return. I’m going to preach on how powerful and accurate Your Word is. I’m going to preach it from the top of the globe to the bottom of the world, and I’m not going to compromise.’
Preaching To Nations
That summer, I began preparing to speak to the “nations,” but not in a pulpit or from behind a podium. Kenneth made his first step toward answering God’s call by taking up his Bible and strolling from his bedroom to the living area of the small house he and Gloria shared in Tulsa. That was the extent of his knowledge. He didn’t have any money, and no meetings were scheduled. God had told him not to beg anyone for money or a venue to preach, and he had obeyed. “Lord, I’m on call,” Kenneth stated to God as he sat down to study his Bible.
The requests for Kenneth to minister began to pour in not long after that. Since then, they’ve continued to arrive. Kenneth and Gloria continue to preach the uncompromised Word to the nations everywhere they go—from the top of the earth to the bottom, and all the way around—bringing people from the milk to the meat of God’s Word and shaping the course of a whole generation of believers.
Building KCM Ministry
Kenneth Copeland Evangelistic Association was founded in 1967 and ultimately became Kenneth Copeland Ministries. The ministry had enormous expansion during the 1970s. The inaugural edition of Believer’s Voice of Victory magazine was a four-page newsletter that was sent to around 3,000 people in 1973. Today, the publication has grown into a 32-page, full-color magazine that is delivered free to over 362,000 subscribers throughout the world each month.
In May 1975, KCM began airing on ten stations, launching its radio ministry. Kenneth was directed by the Lord to preach the Word “on every available voice” a short time afterwards. The program was heard on more than 500 stations in the United States and Canada within a year, leading in a jump in the manufacture and distribution of ministry cassette tapes—at the time, the only form of audio recording for sale—from 27,000 to 171,000.
In 1979, KCM launched its first one-hour weekly television program, which provided another “available voice” for the ministry.
KCM has more than 1.4 million Facebook fans, more than 260,000 Twitter followers, and more than 5.3 million YouTube views thanks to its social media sites. The ministry’s main blog, kennethcopelandministries.org, receives over 41,000 monthly visits, while the podcast has nearly 3.8 million downloads since its beginning in 2015.
The ministry’s most recent brave step of faith was the creation of the Believer’s Voice of Victory Network (BVOVN) in 2015, which features 24/7 programming on faith, healing, finances, relationships, finding peace, and more. The network’s name was changed to “VICTORY ChannelTM” in 2019.
VICTORY offers a hand-picked group of today’s most reputable Bible teachers preaching God’s unadulterated Word. DIRECTV® channel 366, Dish® channel 265, Roku®, Apple TV HD® (or newer), Amazon Fire TV, YouTube®, and govictory.com are all places where you may watch the TV network.
KCM’s call to evangelize the world has been aided via Going Around the World Meetings. The ministry’s inaugural weeklong Believers’ Convention was held in Anaheim, California, in 1979, and it was held there yearly until 2007.
In addition, in 1981, KCM began holding its annual Southwest Believers’ Convention in Fort Worth, Texas, which is still the most anticipated and well-attended event of the year. Several three-day Victory Campaigns and Living Victory meetings, as well as a number of personal meetings, are held by the ministry.
KCM manages its six foreign operations in Canada, Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and Ukraine from its headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas, where almost 400 people work. KCM is able to further broaden its outreach with the Word of God through these offices.
Kenneth and Gloria’s books, magazines, CDs, and DVDs have been translated into at least 22 languages, allowing their message of victory to reach people all over the world. The ministry continues to expand, going wherever the Lord leads to bring the message of hope, promise, and trust to the world, and to proclaim that…Jesus Is Lord!
